Our Inception
The Moment That Started It All
My School Plate began with one unforgettable moment on an ordinary day. I was heading to the gym when I saw a young boy running barefoot down the road, shoes in hand. He was rushing home for lunch — hoping to eat and return before afternoon classes started. The shoes? Too big. They slowed him down, so he carried them.
“He wasn’t skipping class; he was fighting to stay in it.”

The Moment That Started It All
My School Plate began with one unforgettable moment on an ordinary day. I was on my way to the gym when I noticed a young boy rushing down the road, not wearing shoes but holding them in his hands. He looked determined, almost anxious, as if he were racing against time. I stopped and asked, “Why aren’t you at school at this hour?” He told me he was rushing home for lunch, hoping to eat quickly and make it back in time for afternoon classes. The reason he wasn’t wearing his shoes? They were too big. They slowed him down. So he carried them to move faster.
That moment stayed with me. Not because of the shoes, but because of what they represented: a child trying his best to keep up with school, while hunger and circumstance kept pulling him backwards.
“He wasn’t skipping class; he was fighting to stay in it.”
Our Inception
From Theory to Real Life
As someone with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, specializing in Nutrition, I understood the science behind what I was witnessing: when children learn on empty stomachs, concentration drops, energy fades, attendance suffers, and performance declines. But in that moment, it wasn’t theory, it was real life, right in front of me. That’s when I knew this couldn’t just be a conversation we have; it had to become a solution we build.
Building My School Plate
My School Plate exists to ensure that no child has to leave school or race against time just to find a meal. We work to make nutritious school meals more accessible and sustainable, using a community-centered model that can grow with schools and families.

“No child should race against time just to find a meal.”
And because nutrition doesn’t exist in isolation, our work has always looked at the bigger picture. In communities where basic resources still limit learning and health, we’ve taken action beyond meals too, including building a solar-powered well to strengthen access to clean water, a foundational piece of child health and dignity.
A Commitment to Every Child
Today, My School Plate is more than a program — it’s a promise: protect learning time, restore dignity, and help children thrive… one plate, one school, one community at a time.
A child’s future shouldn’t depend on making it home and back before the bell.
